Headquartered in Huntsville, Alabama, Schwarze Industries, Inc. is the world's leading manufacturer of mechanical broom regenerative air road sweepers and parking area sweeps. With equipment in operation in more than 22 countries, Schwarze knows first-hand the importance of local production efficiencies to maintaining global competiveness.
In early 1997, Schwarze upgraded its production facilities from an Amada punch/plasma to a Cincinnati laser. However, after purchasing the laser, they realized they could not take full advantage of its capabilities without software that could produce nests on demand for each customized sweeper.
An exhaustive study of the market turned up only one company capable of meeting Schwarze's needs: Optimation®. The software gives the company the flexibility to "truly build to meet our sales needs, rather than building a lot of inventory." There are other benefits, too, including better utilization of sheet steel, reduced production delays from design changes and a higher level of quality on sheet metal components (closer tolerances, cleaner edges and fewer ' dents and dings' on finished product).
