Feature: Common Edge Cutting with Collision Avoidance
Automatically Cut Common Part Edges while nesting without the problem of collisions with adjacent parts.
What is it?
The Common Edge Cutting is a feature within OptiNest™ software. The software automatically programs parts in a nest or layout of parts to share common edges and avoid collision caused by tipping or bow up parts.
Where is it used?
The Common Edge Cutting feature is used in flat stock or oxyfuel and light gauge cutting with a high-def plasma applications.
How does it work?
When creating the nest, the software automatically and intelligently selects part sides that present common cutting opportunities, i.e., those "matches" that offer optimal time-savings by keeping the head performing "double duty" the longest. You can control which parts are candidates for common cutting as a feature in the part library.
What's the benefit?
By aligning common edges it eliminates material between parts and reduces cycle time necessary to cut two edges instead of one. Common cutting reduces the number of full pierces of the plate. It uses an edge start that avoids many pierces. Very heavy plates four inches and greater are very time consuming and messy to pierce (throws a slag over a large area on top of the plate). With common cutting the number of pierces is greatly reduced. We have recently developed a new linking technique that controls this process more, avoiding much of the potential effect of heat distortion.
